I'm a wedding photographer based in Ottawa Ontario, but travels worldwide. My photography approach is intentional, honest and editorial. An organic approach to capture fleeting moments. This blog lives to inspire your wedding photos and provide you planning tips.
Julie and Kyle tied the knot at a beach wedding elopement after two long years of postponing their wedding day due to Covid restrictions. They met in middle school and “dated” when they were young kids and remained friends throughout high school.
Growing up as best friends and rekindled their young love in college. How freaking romantic is that. They have been together for over 10 years and their relationship “ its still just as fun as it was when we were 13” – Julie the bride.
In their free time they love walking their dogs, swimming, watching movies, sitting by a fire and cottage weekends.
We met at the parking lot of Petrie Island, we scoped a spot with less foot traffic for more privacy. They did a first look followed by a short ceremony at the beach with their two close friends as witness. It only made sense to have Bo and Lola their two doggos (aka their kids) include in the photos.
Wedding vows are intimate promises between the couple. As someone that is more introverted I understand how uncomfortable it is to share that with other people. Julie and Kyle opted to share their vow’s in private after the ceremony. This gave them the privacy and intimacy to share their hearts without the fear of judgement from others.
TIP: Not a huge fan of sharing your vows in front of a huge crowd? opt to do your personal vows during your portrait session or before your ceremony.
Words from Julie (the bride)…
What did you love about your wedding location? (ceremony and reception)
Although it was a public beach, we found it very private and intimate. We loved that it was close to home and somewhere we have been going for years. We also loved the fact that we could go barefeet!!
What was most important to you when planning your wedding?
After two years of postponing, what was most important was finally getting married! When it came down to it, we just wanted our fur babies and a really great photographer to capture the little moments! Like our dog Bo going for a little swim in the water haha!
What memory from your wedding do you remember the most strongly?
My favourite moment was exchanging our vows. When we planned our original big wedding day, my husband was too shy to exchange personally written vows. But when we decided to elope, we were able to have that moment overlooking a beautiful sunset – magical and romantic!
Funniest moment on your wedding day?
Wrangling the crazy dogs! We totally overlooked the fact that they would want to go for a swim, and not want to pose for pictures .. how silly!!
What advice would you give to future couples who are getting married?
Focus on you two and everything will fall into place! If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that the most important thing is that you and your partner are happy.
What was it like working with your photographer?
Mary is the best!! She is so fun, light hearted and makes you feel like you’ve known her forever! She was able to make us feel so comfortable and the pictures reflect that. We are obsessed with the way our photos turned out!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Describe what you would like to convey in your beach wedding photos?
Romance, love, happiness! We don’t like anything overly formal or unnatural, we just want our love to shine!
