I'm a wedding photographer based in Ottawa Ontario, but travels worldwide. My photography approach is intentional, honest and editorial. An organic approach to capture fleeting moments. This blog lives to inspire your wedding photos and provide you planning tips.
Before the crack of dawn Emilaea, Calahan and I met at the bottom of Mount Douglas trail in Victoria BC a quick ride just a few minutes away from the city. Being from the prairie of Canada, I was not fit enough to hike and walk but did it away.
There’s a popular saying “Early birds get warm”
Mount Douglas is a popular location, for good reasons. This spot is not only a few minute’s drives from downtown Victoria. The hike is fairly short and easy (that’s my kind of hike) and you get rewarded with such a beautiful panoramic view of the mountains and pacific ocean.
To beat the crowd in a popular location, opt to do a sunrise session.
Most people generally don’t wake up early. This means you get to enjoy the scenery minus the crowd. I mean if that doesn’t sound amazing I don’t know what does. On top of that you get to see the sunrise come up from the horizon.
We decided to meet 45 minutes before sunrise, giving us plenty of time to hike up Mount Douglas with lots of much needed braek. Im a huge sucker for the morning mist and the stillness of everything.
What better way to start a day by hiking and seeing a breathtaking view at the top. On one side you see the ocean and the Olympic Mountains far in the distance and on the other, you get a panoramic view of victoria city.
Plan to be at the viewpoint during the golden hour, for your engagement session hike.
